Despite the unpromising weather forecast, there was a reasonable turn-out for this walk. Eric turned up at the start but decided not to walk on account of the rain. Soon after he departed, it stopped.

Although there were patches of drizzle, in fact it was reasonably dry. Also, it was in no way cold. Parts of the walk overlapped with the walk from a fortnight ago, but we did them from the opposite direction.

There were several potential pubs for our lunch stop on the way, but we setted on the Star Inn in Old Heathfield. The food was decent and not quite as pricey as we had been led to believe. After moaning about the tendency of certain other walkers to take lengthy lunch breaks (with desert), we were amused to see Steve ordering a coffee in the pub!

As the Star was about two-thirds of the way round, the afternoon walk was short and quite relaxed, although we did almost get lost at one point.

All in all it turned into a good walk, despite the unpromising weather. Any comments on it would be welcome.

I’ve just posted a new press release of Sussex Area Ramblers’ Association on their website. You can read the post entitled Ramblers Object to Motorcycle Madness at Broad Farm Hellingly here.

This walk, led by Richard “the train driver” (yes, he really is a train driver), was well attended and took place in excellent walking conditions. Cult comedian and shit-stirrer Eric B. made his return to the group after more than a year. A ramble through the pleasant countryside to the south-east of Heathfield led us to the Runt in Tun Inn, Maynards Green. We enjoyed our lunch in the spacious pub garden, complete with giant chess set and tennis court, and a couple of friendly springer spaniels. The threat of wasps was averted by our capable in-group wasp killers, who bagged over ten of them. An undemanding second half led us back to Rushlake Green. After the end of the walk, a few walkers decided to brave the Horse & Groom pub, supposedly the domain of a rambler-hostile landlord.

Any comments from those who attended would be welcome.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t make today’s walk, led by Steve. However, if you did, and want to make a comment, please leave it here.
