I wasn’t able to attend today’s extra walk, but if anyone who was there wants to comment, please feel free to do so here.

Steve has supplied some photos of the walk, which I am going to put up soon.

I’ve just got back from an enjoyable walk led by Katy.

Starting from the Village Hall car park in Ditchling, we worked our way through the pleasant Sussex countryside to the Plough Inn at Plumpton. On the way we passed through an enclosure of free range chickens; it was a remarkable sight and an even more remarkable sound. Hopefully Steve will be able to supply me with some of the photos he took of them!

After lunch at the Plough (the food was excellent), we made the journey back to Ditchling. Unfortunately, the weather was not quite so good for this section of the walk. Perhaps the marker by the railway crossing with the code “666D” was a bad omen! Steve has a photo of that too…

Anyone who was on the walk who wishes to leave a comment, please feel free to do so.

Many thanks to Claire, who has offered to do an additional walk on this date.

It starts at 10:30 am on the 18th October from Uckfield bus station (GR TQ 472 209, Explorer Map 135) and is 8 miles with a pub stop.

Claire promises:

One section with some clambering over rocks and short climbs otherwise mostly flat. Varied scenery woods, pasture, riverbanks, and a magical lake with rocky promontories and majestic redwood trees. I will bring some wildlife books and we can have a fungi foray…
