A select group hardy walkers gathered in Stanmer Park car park this morning for Steve’s latest walk, titled “Walk Off the Xmas Pud”. Conditions were cold but clear; it was icy in places, but the snow itself, where not compacted, was crisp under foot.
The walk took us past the new student accomodation at the University of Sussex, which is currently under construction, up to Black Cap. From there it was down to the village of Plumpton, where we stopped at the Half Moon for lunch.
The pub itself is a little up market in its presentation, but is friendly for walkers. They did not, for instance, object to our muddy boots, but rather invited us straight in. The food is typically priced for today’s pubs in Sussex (it was ten pounds upwards for a main course), and was very good quality.
The afternoon saw us return to Stanmar Park via another route over the downs. We made it back just as the sun had set. Fortunately, both the university and park were well illuminated.
Many thanks to Steve for the walk; I certainly enjoyed it and I hope the other participants did.
