Latest Walk: Borde Hill Spectacular

Unfortunately, I was unable to make it to today’s walk. However, if you did attend and would like to leave a comment, feel free to do so.

UPDATE: Andrew, the walk leader, has supplied the following report on the walk:

A largish turnout of SYW from the Ardingly reservoir car park saw superb summer weather greeting us. We firstly headed toward the Balcolmbe viaduct and once again were able to take pictures of that iconic structure from underneath the second arch. We passed through the well known Sidnye Farm before heading up toward the Cuckfield Golf Course. After some re navigation we were able to bypass a narrow footpath with a broken stile and enter the golf course from the 5th tee. This led us eventually to Whitemans Green and a very nice picnic lunch on one of the green spaces.

Our next destination was Borde Hill Gardens Estate from the Cuckfield side entrance; and we made our way down to the Haywards Heath public entrance passing the manor house and Jeremys restaurant.

After finding Copyhold Lane we entered a field of potentially aggressive cattle that today decided to be non interested in the human visitors. This led us back to the Reservoir and refreshments from the lake cafe.

Many thanks to the dozen or so walkers who enjoyed the warm weather and beautiful mid sussex countryside.

  1. Weather brought out the punters today. An excellent walk for discovering the mid sussex area. One to repeat at a later date.

  2. Good turnout and nice route. Claire and I survived the excursion to the broken stile and returned to the group safely, with PT in tow. Great weather for the picnic.
